IDPD Pancake Breakfast in Vegreville
As the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) was on a Sunday this year (December 3), EmployAbilities celebrated the event on Friday, December 1.
IDPD in Bonnyville
In Bonnyville, at our Lakeland Employment Services office, we had a coffee break-themed drop-in – a chance for people to mingle and have some coffee and snacks. We connected with the folks from the Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Society, Community Futures, The Hive Youth Hub, and a client. We played information videos on the projector regarding disabilities, and everyone who came went home with their pick of a toque, mittens, or a pair of socks. We donated our leftover snacks and winter items to The Hive and FASD in town.
IDPD in Vegreville
In Vegreville, approximately 90 hungry Vegrevillians joined us for a pancake breakfast. There were no leftovers! Mayor Tim MacPhee and members of the Council were on hand to speak at the event after officially proclaiming the International Day for Persons with Disabilities in Council Chambers on November 21.
We received many positive comments from this event, centred around the delicious food and great guest speakers who joined us on this important day. We’d like to thank Mayor MacPhee, Premier’s Council representative Katie Suvanto, VALID Executive Director Lans Syms, Vegreville Seniors Sunshine Club President Dwayne Hlady, VegMin, Executive Director Cheryl Semeniuk, and VegMin Readers Theatre Assistant Heather McDonald.
