Trades people have always been in high demand. However, workforce shortages across nearly every industry have increased that demand. Business owners must recruit and train thousands more Canadians in the skilled trades. New investment from the Government of Canada could make this easier for job seekers with disabilities.
On August 31, 2022, the Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion announced that the federal government would invest up to $10 million to provide unions with up to 50% of the cost of new training equipment and materials to help people train for a skilled trade.
