Shane came to EmployAbilities in March 2021 to get assistance returning to the labour market after having last worked in 2016.  Unfortunately, after a 5-year gap in his employment, Shane’s resume wasn’t garnering the attention of any employers.

After meeting with his Employment Coach, Shane created an action plan to help him become closer to the labour market. Shane completed online skills training sessions and several certifications related to his job targets, and his Employment Coach assisted him in developing industry-specific resumes. Shane was very worried about what would happen once he got to the interview stage. He shared these concerns with his Employment Coach, and many hours were spent preparing him how best to answer questions regarding his 5-year gap from employment, explaining why he was fired from his previous position, and how he could assure employers he was the best candidate for them to select despite his previous challenges.

Shane had applied with his updated resume for a full-time warehouse position at Aurora Pete Products. He soon received a reply inviting him in for an interview. Shane’s honest and authentic answers impressed the employer, and they offered him the position.
