Joanne had worked as a supervisor for an industrial supply shop for over 10 years but unfortunately lost her job when she was laid off in March 2020 due to COVID-19. Although Joanne was able to support herself on the Canada Emergency Response Benefit and employment insurance for some time, she struggled greatly to secure employment.

Joanne’s employment coach helped her revise and update her resume to garner more attention from employers. Joanne also needed assistance with online applications, an area she struggled with and wasn’t taking full advantage of. She also practiced interviewing with her employment coach so she could be more confident during interviews.

Joanne found the long job search disheartening and expressed how difficult it seemed for mature workers to find employment in the current job market. ICC staff members worked hard to keep Joanne’s morale up during these difficult months.  Joanne applied diligently to jobs from June until November until she was offered a full-time position as a Shelf Stocker at Superstore.

She accepted the job at Superstore and has found the job to be very well suited for her, and she feels valued and appreciated. She reports that she can see herself continuing her position until she decides to retire one day. She’s received a lot of positive feedback from her supervisor on the quality of her work and her reliability.

Way to go, Joan!
