Alexis was referred to EmployAbilities by the Wellness Center for Transgendered Individuals and has been accessing employment services. Alexis had been unemployed since October 2020, and she was laid off from her job as a warehouse associate for over 5 years because the business closed down. She indicated she has had several successful jobs over the years, but since the layoff, she has been experiencing great difficulty with her job search. If invited to interviews, she suspected she was not offered employment due to transgender discrimination.
While supporting Alexis, she was offered 1-1 Employment Readiness Skills Training workshops, career planning, coaching to develop job targets, resume development, interview support, job search assistance and once-employed retention services. Further, EmployAbilities referred Alexis for Psychoeducation Evaluation through Disability Related Employment Support as there were questions about learning disabilities impacting work performance and potential training and education in the future.
After working with her Employment Coach Alexis was offered employment at Home Depot as a part-time Overnight Merchandise Specialist. She started this position in April 2022, and in June, she was offered a full-time job. Additionally, she reports this has been the most inclusive and supportive employer she has ever had! Has won two Homer Awards for work performance excellence with nothing holding her back.
