Charlotte, a 35-year-old Albertan, came to EmployAbilities having difficulty securing employment after losing her last job due to illness. She had been unemployed for almost three years and received Alberta Works support.
Her Employment Coach assisted with developing two types of resumes, varied job targets, job search strategies and interview skills. Emphasis was placed on the interview, fostering strategies involving questions about employment history, the break in employment and demonstrating confidence in her abilities.
Charlotte worked with her Employment Coach and the Job Development team to identify and apply to jobs that fit her skills, experience, and interests. Her primary targets are Medical Office Assistance and Customer Service.
Charlotte secured an interview, and employment was offered as a part-time Medical Office Assistant. She reported that initially transitioning into the role was challenging as she stated her skills were ‘rusty’ and she had to improve her physical and mental stamina.
We are happy to report that after 6 months, Charlotte remains working. Further, her support from AB Works has reduced, and she hopes that sometime soon, she will no longer require their assistance.
