Lloyd, a 57-year-old Edmontonian, came to EmployAbilities as a self-referral. He explained that in 2018, he was involved in a workplace accident doing hotel renovations and now has a prosthetic left hand and had also lost some phalanges on his right hand. After 35+ years in the construction industry and no plausible way to return to it, he needed assistance finding a new career path to supplement his AISH income.

Lloyd’s computer skills are limited. Typing and writing by hand also present challenges for Lloyd as well. He had attempted an addictions-related diploma at NorQuest College but found schooling to be very difficult and decided it wasn’t the route for him.

Lloyd presented many transferable skills valued by employers. He’s very friendly and outgoing and seems to quickly develop positive rapport with others. Additionally, he had operated company vehicles for over 35+ years while maintaining a clean driver’s abstract. Fortunately, Lloyd was able to operate vehicles safely and maintained his license. An opportunity presented itself through EmployAbilities business partner – The Brick, for a shuttle driving position. Lloyd and his employment coach felt he’d be a great fit for the position, and the part-time hours were perfectly aligned to supplement his AISH income.

Lloyd developed a targeted resume with his employment coach and was able to secure an interview. After doing some mock interviews with EmployAbilities, Lloyd felt ready for his interview with the Brick, and it couldn’t have gone better!

HR managers at the Brick have reached out and thanked EmployAbilities for connecting Lloyd with them. He has and continues to make a grand impression on all those he transports and the team at The Brick. Lloyd is very happy to be there as well and is enjoying what he’s doing.
