Daxter is a 30-year-old Albertan who graduated in 2020 from the Library and Information Technology Diploma program at MacEwan University. He came to EmployAbilities seeking assistance. He was last employed over four years ago when he was released from his position, resulting in a mental health crisis that required hospitalization.
Daxter had been working with his doctors and support services. He was given the go-ahead to seek employment, preferably in the library or customer service sector. He was assisted with resume development and interview preparation. This helped him feel more at ease discussing past employment and supported him with an individualized job search.
Due to Covid and the competitive labour market, employment was not found in the library sector. Additional focus was directed at retail sales/customer service roles. After several weeks of consistent job search, he was invited to interview with several companies and offered employment. Daxter was prepped for the interviews and coached to determine which of the two positions was a better fit.
Daxter accepted a position at Home Depot as a Kitchen and Bath Associate, with some responsibilities in design. Initially, he required frequent retention coaching sessions to help him integrate into his role and ensure he was managing mental wellness. We are pleased to report that after 6 months, Daxter continues to work at Home Depot. He has been awarded twice for exceptional work performance and recognized for going beyond the call to help his team and customers.
