Employer DEAM Event Recap – St. Paul, Alberta

As part of Disability Employment Awareness Month (DEAM), Labour Force Link was proud to partner with SPAN, FCSS, Taproot, and EmployAbilities North to host an inspiring, well-attended employer event in St. Paul. We had 36 participants from across the community.

The event celebrated the power of inclusion in the workplace and highlighted practical tools for employers through the presentation of the “Hiring Made Simple” Resource Guide. Attendees also participated in an engaging, interactive activity, voting on whether common statements about persons with disabilities and employment were myths or truths, sparking meaningful conversations and shifting perspectives.

Our partners at SPAN led a panel discussion featuring Amanda from B&D Mechanical, who shared firsthand experiences of building a diverse team. She was also recognized with a DEAM Award from SPAN in celebration of their ongoing commitment to inclusive hiring. EmployAbilities North presented a second DEAM Award to Paladin Security, further highlighting local champions who are making a difference in their workplaces and communities.

The event also featured a short presentation from Taproot, introducing their services and answering questions during a lively Q&A session. Lakeland FASD provided delicious mocktails, and guests enjoyed a catered lunch by Tanis Shapka, owner of A Cut Above Catering, a former EAN client who has since launched a successful catering business.

The atmosphere throughout the day was one of collaboration, learning, and celebration, showcasing how community partnerships can make inclusive employment not only possible but powerful.
