Four projects that help get jobs for people with disabilities will get funding from the Alberta government.
The projects are getting grants from the Employment First Innovation Fund. Human Service Minister Irfan Sabir said the government will also create 20 paid internships for people with disabilities.
The projects are:
- Foothills Special Needs Association for Parents and Siblings – The project provides services for High River, Okotoks and Foothill Municipal District #31. The group wants to prepare youth and their families for post-secondary education and employment. It also wants to build employer awareness in smaller communities.
- Gateway Association for Community Living – The Edmonton organization wants to support people aged 16 to 25 who are in government care, and support companies who want to hire them.
- Northeast Alberta Information Hub – The project serves aboriginal communities in St. Paul, Vegreville, Saddle Lake, Frog Lake, Barrhead, Westlock, Bonnyville, Cold Lake, Hinton, Athabasca and Lac La Biche.
- Prospect’s Viable program – The Calgary organization wants to help employers create workplaces that support disabled workers. It wants to expand services to communities along the Calgary-Edmonton corridor.
