Province Cuts Funding for Programs for Persons with Disabilities

The provincial government’s new budget has wiped out roughly $42 million dollars in programming for persons with disabilities, with specific cuts to programs available to Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD).

Local agencies are forced to lay off staff, limit community access to programming, and reduce community supports to vulnerable Albertans.

In an article that ran over the weekend in the St. Albert Gazette, the Alberta Council of Disability Services (ACDS) stated that the funding cuts “will have a profound negative impact on the health, safety, and well-being of the individuals and families who currently rely on these services.”
