Chronic Pain Accelerates Disability
Chronic pain is defined as pain that continues longer than what would normally be expected in the course of healing naturally.¬†
Chronic pain can interfere with work, leisure and even how you interact in your relationships.¬† The Journal of American Geriatrics Society released a study that stated “people with chronic pain develop functional limitations that are typically associated with aging at much younger-than-expected ages.”
The study does not quite determine whether disability causes chronic pain OR chronic pain causes disability.¬† The researchers do suggest that chronic pain and disability do aggravate each other. ¬† Chronic pain should be managed and treated appropriately to improve a higher quality of life and promote a healthier aging process.
