Promising engineer’s innovative research defies disability

  • Taylor Oetelaar was born with cerebral palsy, a nervous system disorder that affects the body’s co-ordination and muscle strength. The disease robbed him of the use of one of his arms. He has difficulty speaking and requires the use of a wheelchair to travel longer distances. That hasn’t deterred him from following his dreams!

“My disability affects everything I do but I never allow it to deter me from anything within reason,” Oetelaar said in an email interview with the Calgary Herald.

Taylor will graduate from the University of Calgary’s Schulich School of Engineering with a PhD in mechanical engineering. Read his incredible story in this article from the Calgary Herald.
